A study of the front obi sectin of a Japanese doll a few decades old. I am fascinated by Japanese garments and the design made from combining patterns and folds of fabric. The folds in the upper portion of the design are from an outer kimono that is sometimes worn hanging from the waist as the arms aren't in the sleeves. It adds a richness to the overall design.

This is done in graphite and is one of a series of drawings of this figure. I choose parts of the whole so as to get an appreciation of the detail involved in Japanese clothing ensembles.
